Capitec Bank – F1 Advertisement

Capitec wanted to convey that their card machines are not just efficient, they’re racing ahead of the competition. Inspired by the exhilarating world of F1 racing, Lucidstate created an animation to showcase how quickly and smoothly Capitec’s machines work, positioning them as the “race car” of the financial tech world. Our task was to bring this concept to life in a way that was visually compelling, clear, and, of course, fun!

We began by crafting a top-down view of a classic F1 pit stop, the kind viewers are familiar with during race broadcasts. Instead of a typical F1 car, the focus was on a Capitec card machine. The card machine was modelled and textured in 3D and composited into the scene in After Effects.

The top-down angle enabled us to emphasise the intricate details of the pit stop, showcasing the “race car” (card machine) as it zoomed into the frame with a dynamic motion blur. The mechanics were rotoscoped to seamlessly blend into the scene. To highlight the speed and ease of the machine, we animated a countdown timer, visually demonstrating how quickly and effortlessly the card can be tapped for payment.

This project was a fantastic example of how animation can elevate a brand’s message by making it relevant to the program that is currently being viewed. By drawing on the high-energy world of F1 racing, we were able to showcase Capitec’s cutting-edge payment solutions in a way that was both engaging and on-brand.
